Christmas is just around the corner and many of us are busy preparing or creating christmas gifts. Some have certainly already baked cookies and other sweet treats. But what would christmas be without the well-known and popular vanilla crescents. We at the Salzburg Grain Mills are always happy to share recipes with you and are always open to ideas, comments or requests. Just send us an email to j.fuschelberger@agrisan.at .

Here is our vanilla crescent recipe for you:

Ingredients

Vanillekipferl

  • 150 g whole grain flour (fresh and very finely ground with your Salzburg grain mill)
  • 150 g hazelnuts (ground, but not with your grain mill!)
  • 90 g sugar
  • 150 g butter
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 1 package vanilla sugar
  • powdered sugar for sprinkling

Preparation

First of all, sift the freshly ground whole grain flour with a fine sieve. Then for the dough, put all the ingredients together in a bowl and knead until you get a uniform dough. Then chill the dough in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. It would be best if the dough is chilled overnight.

Then preheat the oven to 180°C and put baking paper on a baking tray. Now cut larger pieces of the dough and form rolls that are about 3-4 cm in diameter. From the rolls again cut off pieces of about 3 cm and form them into crescents.

Place the vanilla crescents on a baking tray and bake for about 10 minutes until they are lightly browned. Let them cool down and roll them in powdered sugar.

We wish you good luck with the baking!

See you soon and have a wonderful pre-christmas time,

the team of the Salzburg Grain Mills
