- the off-grid alternative
- for gentle grinding of the grain
- as a precaution in times of crisis
In many so-called poor countries of this earth such as Africa, Brazil or areas without electrical supply, our hand grain mills with granite grinding stone have been doing good, reliable work for decades. Solidly built, easy to fix and quick and easy to operate, this hand mill is a real alternative when no electrical connection is possible. On alpine pastures, boats, second homes and camping, etc., wholesome flour and muesli are thus available at all times. The housing of the grain mill is made of hard, solid beech wood.
The wooden grinding chamber ensures that the flour retains its valuable ingredients unchanged.
All internal parts of the wood remain free of any varnish substances and solvents so that the wood retains its natural ability to breathe and absorb.
Wood is known to have an antistatic and antibacterial effect.
The 12 cm granite grindstone quarried in nature is proven durable and self-sharpening. Granite is natural-pure without any binder.
Especially when buying grain directly from the farmer, it can happen that there are small impurities such as stones in the grain. Without any problem, the granite stones grind them without any parts of the stone breaking off (according to our experience, this has never happened with hand mills in over 35 years). These natural grinds also guarantee the long life of the mill and protect your teeth.
Especially for raw foodists, grinding the grain without heating is of great importance.
You yourself determine the speed of the grinding stone with your power and thus ensure the most gentle grinding of the grain.
If you want to grind grain by hand in larger quantities, we advise you to take a look at our hand mill MH 8. With the 20 cm granite stone, something really goes on!

Have purchased the hand mill MH4 and the electric mill Max. Am very satisfied with the quality of the mills, everything is well made. After the first time to get the grist out of the container of the MH4 were a few small transparent crystals with it, probably from the grindstone the corundum, then never again, may have come from the production. I didn’t have anything like that with the Max electric mill.
What I want to emphasize is that when you put the freshly ground flour in your mouth and chew it, it feels like you have sand between your teeth. This is ONLY the flour itself, if you soften them in water this phenomenon stops.
I have now already taken the MH4 on holiday with me, the supplied clamps must not be forgotten. So I could always attach the MH4 to the table at the shelter and grind. The MH4 is not loud, so you can work with it late at night without disturbing neighbors, the electric grinder Max is a bit louder, has a motor inside, but still quiet. At night, however, I would still use the hand mill.
I have two suggestions for improving the MH4, and that is to deburr the holes on the metal tube that lets the grain fall between the 2 grinding stones (this ensures that the grain slides out even better), and to deburr the hole in the collecting container (so that the flour slides out even more easily). Another possibility would be to supply a brush that can be screwed onto the radius, which automatically pushes the ground material through the hole when rotating.
You can play around with both machines to make the flour finer, but it is not really that important. If the flour comes into contact with moisture (e.g. water), it becomes soft anyway.
The electric mill makes it the easiest if someone wants very fine flour.
There is no alternative! You have to grind it yourself. Sad health TRUTH! (Prof Kollath)
What types of grain can you grind with the MH 4 hand mill?
